Semasa taklimat Jabatan Negara pd hari Jumaat, bagaimanapun, seorang war-tawan AP mencadangkan bahawa ia akan menjadi lebih logik untuk mengatakan bahawa "NATO telah bergerak lebih dekat dengan sempadan Rusia."

US State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki and Pentagon Press Secretary Rear Adm. John Kirby have been challenged over the Department of Defense's claims that the US must “deal” with “modern and capable” Russian armed forces on NATO's doorstep.

Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu expressed “grave concern” and “surprise” at a Wednesday speech made by US Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel during the Association of the United States Army’s annual conference. Hagel declared that US armed forces "must deal with a revisionist Russia - with its modern and capable army - on NATO's doorstep.”

During a State Department briefing on Friday, however, an AP journalist suggested that it would be more logical to say that “NATO has moved closer to Russia’s borders.”

“Is it not logical to look at this and say – the reason why Russia’s army is on NATO’s doorstep, is because NATO expands,” journalist Matt Lee said.

“That’s the way [Russian] President Putin probably looks at it, it’s certainly not the way that we look at it,” Kirby said in response to the journalist’s reasoning.

Though he eventually admitted that NATO has expanded, Kirby added that “NATO is not an anti-Russia alliance, it is a security alliance.”

"Ia bukan NATO yg memesan tan batalion taktikal & tentera ke Ukraine sempadan [itu]," kata Kirby, sebelum diingatkan bahawa Ukraine bukan sebahagian dari NATO.

NATO juga ketara meningkatkan kehadiran tenteranya dekat sempadan Rusia, terutamanya di Poland & negara2 bekas Soviet Baltik dari Latvia, Lithuania dan Estonia, yg telah menyatakan keprihatinan atas potensi serangan Rusia ke wilayah mereka.

“It wasn’t NATO that was ordering tons of tactical battalions and army to [the] Ukraine border,” Kirby added, before being reminded that Ukraine is not part of NATO.

Kirby then refused to agree with the point that the Russians could understandably perceive NATO’s expansion as a “threat,” especially given that the alliance existed as “anti-Soviet” for half a century.

“I’m not going to pretend to know what goes in President Putin’s mind or Russian military commanders . . . I mean, I barely got a history degree at the University of South Florida,” Kirby joked, dodging the question.

Kirby assured that NATO's moves were not “hostile and threatening,” but rather a matter of security. He added that he was “worried about their [Russia’s] moves around Ukraine.” Psaki then cut in, saying that “other countries feel threatened,” and urged the conversation to move on.

In terms of new threats at NATO’s borders, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said on Friday that it is the US which has been “stubbornly approaching . . . closer to our doors.”

Relations between Russia and NATO have been tense since the alliance accused Russia of becoming involved in the Ukrainian conflict – a claim Russia has conti-nuously denied.

Following Crimea's accession to Russia in March, the US and Europe bombarded Moscow with sanctions. NATO also significantly increased its military presence near Russia's borders, especially in Poland and the former Soviet Baltic states of Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia, which have expressed concern at the potential for Russian incursions into their territories.

An Italian company believes they have come up with an idea that could improve the lives of hundreds of millions. They have developed an easily transportable printer that can build houses out of natural materials, such as mud or clay.

The technology is relatively simple, and was designed by the Italian based company, WASP (World’s Advanced Saving Project), and one of its main attributes is it can be assembled in two hours.

The printer has three arms with a six-meter reach in height. So it can build houses to a much greater height than is usually the case with a mud hut. Another difference is the method of construction, which makes the dwelling much stronger. Instead of using large square blocks, small triangles are used, allowing the house to bear a much greater load.

Keuntungan lain adalah bentuk-bentuk ini kering lebih cepat, membuat rumah yang dihuni lebih cepat, sementara tidak ada bahan-bahan yang perlu diimport: segala sesuatu yang diperlukan utk membina sebuah rumah lumpur boleh didapati di kawasan membangun ini.

The company name, WASP, was not chosen by accident. The Italian based project modeled the design of the houses on how the potter wasp builds its nest, according to the website IFL Science. The insect uses mud and hair, which it bends into shape to construct a sturdy home.

WASP are the second largest 3D printing organization in Italy and are using the money they earn from the commercial sale of their printers to fund this project. They hope to construct their first full size house in early 2015.

US Vice-President Joe Biden’s son Hunter was discharged from the Navy Reserve in February 2014 after failing a drug test that turned up positive for cocaine just a month after his commissioning, it’s been revealed.

Citing the Navy, the Wall Street Journal reported that Hunter Biden was commiss-ioned as an ensign on May 7, 2013, and assigned to Navy Public Affairs Support Element East in Norfolk, Virginia, a reserve unit. The following month he was given a drug test, which came out positive for cocaine. Based on the results, Biden was discharged in February.

Hunter Biden, 44, the younger son of the vice-president, has issued a statement Thursday saying he was “embarrassed” by his administrative discharge, but he did not say what prompted the Navy Reserve's decision.

"It was the honor of my life to serve in the US Navy, and I deeply regret and am embarrassed that my actions led to my administrative discharge," Biden said in a statement delivered by his lawyer. "I respect the Navy's decision. With the love and support of my family, I'm moving forward."

Navy spokesman Commander Ryan Perry has also confirmed that Biden was dis-charged from the Navy Reserve in February 2014. Perry explained that the privacy laws barred him from releasing any details.

“Like other junior officers, the details of Ens. Biden’s discharge are not releasable due to the Privacy Act,” he said.

The vice-president’s office declined to comment.

With no prior military service, Hunter Biden decided to pursue military career, following in the footsteps of his grandfathers.

He began the direct-commission process to become a public-affairs officer in the Navy Reserve in 2012.

Hunter Biden needed a waiver to join the Navy, because of his age, 43, at the time. Hunter also required a second Navy waiver due to a drug-related incident when he was a young man, the report said, citing “people familiar with the matter.”

Hunter Biden was recommended for a direct commission – a program that allows recruiting civilians without military background - after an interview with a board of Naval officers, the Navy said, according to the WSJ. Candidates with needed skills are required to attend a two-week training program in Rhode Island.

In case of failing a drug test, navy personnel does not receive honorable discharges, but an “other than honorable” or “general” discharge. It is not known which of them Biden received as the Navy does not release statuses of low-ranking officers or junior enlisted personnel.

A lawyer and former lobbyist, Hunter Biden made headlines earlier this year when it was announced that he joined the board of directors of Burisma Holdings, Ukraine’s largest private gas producer. The news coincided with the VP’s engagement in diplomatic talks with Ukraine at a time when a political crisis there was growing.

Joe and Jill Biden are proud of their family’s military background. Their other son, Delaware Attorney-General Beau Biden, served in Iraq as a captain in the Delaware Army National Guard for a year. Their daughter Ashley joined the Delaware Center for Justice as associate executive director in 2012.

Seorang komandan Kurdi berkata ISIS berundur semalam - menarik balik sebanyak 2 km sebelah timur dan 9 km sebelah barat.

Orang Kurd kini penjelasan kota. Kelompok Islam tinggalkan di belakang pelaku bom bunuh diri bersembunyi di runtuhan bangunan-bangunan di bandar.

"Kita masih boleh mendengar tembakan dan letupan sporadis yang datang dari Kobani," RT Murad Gazdiev laporan dari sempadan Turki-Syria.

Walau bagaimanapun, pengumuman kemenangan dari pejuang Kurdis masih belum dibuat kerana seluruh kota itu tidak dijamin.

Islamic State fighters have been driven out of Kobani, the Kurdish town that strad-dles the Syrian-Turkish border, after weeks of heavy fighting, according to Kurdish sources speaking to RT.

A Kurdish commander said that ISIS retreated overnight – withdrawing by 2 km east and 9 km west.

The Kurds are now clearing the city. The Islamists have left behind suicide bombers hiding in the ruins of the various buildings in the city.

"We can still hear sporadic gunfire and explosions coming from Kobani," RT's Murad Gazdiev reports from the Turkish-Syrian border.

However, a victory announcement from the Kurdish fighters is yet to be made because the whole of the city has not been secured.

Hanya beberapa hari lalu Kobani telah dihapus kira2nya dan telah diramalkan jatuh kepada pejuang IS, bahkan oleh sekutu Kurdis terdekat. Militan Negara Islam mengawal hampir keseluruhan sempadan di antara Syria dan Turki jadi ia adalah penting bagi mereka yang strategik untuk mengawal bandar sempadan.

Only a few days ago Kobani had been written off and was predicted to fall to IS fighters, even by the Kurds' closest allies. The Islamic State militants control almost entire border between Syria and Turkey so it was vital for them strategically to take control of the border town.

On Wednesday and Thursday alone more than 14 bombing raids were carried out in which 16 buildings in Kobani were destroyed, sources told Haaretz.

The newspaper also reported that up to 20 percent of the town may still be controlled by IS militants. The battle for the strategically-important border town has already cost the lives of nearly 600 people.

A Thursday statement from US Central Command said that the airstrikes “had continued to slow IS advances, but that the security situation on the ground in Kobani remains tenuous.” It also warned “We need more airstrikes, as well as weaponry and ammunition to fight them on the ground.”

The news from Kobani comes as the new UN Human Rights Commissioner Zeid Ra’ad al Hussein, said that the IS is “a diabolical, potentially genocidal movement.”

He said that group is “the product of a perverse and lethal marriage of a new form of nihilism with the digital age.”

US President Barack Obama is set to appoint Ron Klain as the Ebola "czar" charged with coordinating government efforts in fight against the spread of the virus in the United States, CNN reports.

The news comes less than 24 hours after the president met with the country’s top health officials. Following the meeting, he told reporters that it might be appropriate to appoint an additional person to coordinate the response to Ebola in the United States.

"It may make sense for us to have one person ... so that after this initial surge of activity, we can have a more regular process just to make sure that we're crossing all the T's and dotting all the I's going forward," Obama said.

Klain is the president of Case Holdings, the holding company for the business and philanthropic interests of former AOL chairman Steve Case, and general counsel at Revolution LLC, a Washington, DC-based investment firm. He previously served as the chief of staff for Vice President Joe Biden, as well as for former Vice President Al Gore. He left the Obama administration in January 2011.

The White House considers Klain to be a good manager from his time overseeing the allocation of funds in the stimulus act, according to CNN. He does not have any extensive background in dealing with health care, but the administration views the Ebola czar as a managerial position.
